For many years I have been
fascinated by Islamic and Indian Art as well as Illuminated Manuscripts
and Celtic design. They have been significant influences on my Art Teaching
and of course in the way in which our home has been decorated. It is only
recently however, that have I been able to devote a greater amount of
time to create my own artwork.

In order to try and capture
some of the richness I admire in these various forms of Art and
Design, I use a rich and colourful combination of watercolour, inks,
plaster, metal leaf and foils. The letters and patterns are built
up in layers, sometimes using my own lattice stencils and adding
translucent glazes and coloured waxes. The letters often appear
to float on the paper as they mingle with the decoration around,
in front and behind them. Whilst my work bears some obvious visual
connections to the styles and cultures I much admire, each piece
of work is totally original, unique and individually designed by
me.
